"I won't let you get away this time!" A gray and white tom growled, his blue eyes narrowed into slits. His anger obvious.
"Is that so?" The voice belonged to a fox. Quite a sly one. His dark red pelt was unfuffled and his eyes were more amused, then angered. "You have tried once before, but that didn't happen."
"You killed Haze. You will be punished!" The cat screeched as it leaped at the fox, claws extended.
It wasn't hard for the fox to swipe the cat away.
"What was that?" A light ginger tabby's ears were perked as he heard the sound of a fight. "That sounded like Nova!"
"Free! Wait!" Yelled a dark reddish brown tom. "You'll get yourself killed!"
But Free didn't wait. Instead, he dashed off in the direction of the screech. It didn't take him long to reach the cause of the noise.
Nova, the gray and white tom, was breathless. He was panting heavily and crimson liquid dripped down his shoulder. Although he was injured, the fire did not disappear from his focused gaze.
Immediately, Free leaped to his side. "How cute."
"I would prefer if you didn't think I was cute," Nova snapped as they stood side-by-side, ready to face the fox.
Nova nodded and as one, the two toms sprang and crashed into the fox. Stunned, the fox let out a surprised yelp.
The fox managed to wriggle free from the mass of the cats, but he didn't go unharmed. His eyes widened in fear at the thought of being beat. He turned around and did the only thing he could think of; he fled.
"After him!" Free demanded as he began chasing the fox, Nova was at his heels.
The fox wove through the trees, his red pelt flashing through the brush. Not far behind, Nova and Free were running. "Stay on his heels!" Free yelled as he turned off to the side and began running in another direction.
"What're you doing, fool?!" Nova hissed, but continued running. His eyes locked on the animal in front of him. He would not lose today, not when he had to avenge Haze.
Nova watched as the fox made a sharp right and continued running. There would be no where to run, not with the cliff nearby. Unless...
The fox wasn't slowing down. Surely he knew about the danger lying ahead? The roar of the river below the cliff could be heard. He wasn't about to call out, when a yowl stopped him. Free leaped out from nearby, and landed on the fox's back. He clung there.
"Free!" Nova snapped. "Get off! The cliff!"
Free didn't seem to hear him as he attempted to hold on as well as pummel the back of the fox with his back claws.
"Fool!"
The cliff could be seen now, yet Free didn't let go. As the fox was about to leap off of the cliff, another creature leaped over him and grabbed Free by the scruff. It was a light gray tabby tom. He yanked him off and the two crashed to the ground just as the fox dove off the cliff and into the crashing water below.
The cat that had saved him looked more annoyed then angry.
"Free!" The reddish brown tabby looked down at him, his yellow eyes furious. "What were you thinking? Did you have a death wish?"
"You idiot!" Nova hissed when he reached the group. "You were lucky Sight was there to save you."
"Bear," a black cat interrupted. He blinked his violet eyes. "The fox hasn't resurfaced. He either drowned or he was brought further down the river."
Bear nodded. "Thank you, Light. As for you, Free. We shall report this to Ash. Let's go."
Free hung his head, he had been scolded like a kit and in front of the rest of the family. Stifling a defeated sigh, he walked back to camp with the rest of the group. He could only imagine what kind of lecture he would get from Ash.
